I like them both, too.

They are just completely different authors. Phillip K. Dick is often lauded as philosophically deep and intellectually compelling, whereas Gibson is generally considered sexy pulp fiction trash, the literary analog of action films.

The cowering in fear is a joke in reference to Gibson's status as a god amongst the rivet heads.
But hey, Dick never started a subculture. :)
